Chromosome - Afrika (Post-Punk)
Desde su formación en 1981, Chromosome se colocó como una anomalía fascinante dentro del post-punk, adelantados a su tiempo y totalmente ajenos a las reglas del mercado. Fundada por el provocador Rami Fortis y el innovador sonoro Doron “Shultz” Eyal, y más tarde acompañados por David Gervai y Rona Vered, la banda construyó un lenguaje propio basado en la experimentación constante. Hoy, con la reedición de su EP homónimo, Chromosome vuelve a poner el reflector sobre Afrika, una de las piezas que mejor representan esa etapa cruda y visionaria.

La producción de Afrika se siente directa, sin filtros innecesarios, el sonido se expande hacia territorios electrónicos y psicodélicos, con guitarras vibrantes que cortan el ambiente y ritmos mecánicos que sostienen la tensión. Su música me resulta experimental e hipnótica, un tanto ecléctica pero muy interesante, y esta rola refleja perfecto su sonido y estilo crudo en directo. La mezcla conserva imperfecciones que juegan a favor de la atmósfera, creando una experiencia inmersiva donde la voz enérgica guía el caos con carácter.

Founded by provocateur Rami Fortis and sonic innovator Doron “Shultz” Eyal, later joined by David Gervai and Rona Vered, the band developed a distinct language rooted in relentless experimentation. With the reissue of their self-titled EP, Chromosome once again brings attention to Afrika, one of the tracks now being highlighted as part of this renewed release.
The production on Afrika feels raw and immediate, a live session captured in motion. At its core, the track is post-punk, yet it stretches into electronic and psychedelic spaces, driven by vibrating guitars and rigid, mechanical rhythms. Personally, I find their music experimental and hypnotic, somewhat eclectic but genuinely compelling, and this song perfectly reflects their raw live sound and aesthetic. The mix embraces its rough edges, enhancing the atmosphere and pulling the listener into an immersive experience where an energetic, bright-toned vocal cuts through the controlled chaos
