Völkslieder is an independent, zero-profit studio project that deliberately rejects the traditional conventions of a band. There is no permanent lineup, no frontman, and no manufactured mythology. Instead, each song is built around a rotating group of contributors who participate as temporary witnesses to the work. Through this approach, Völkslieder focuses on systemic tensions, social realities, and uncomfortable truths rather than commercial trends. Under the Open Sky tells the story of African men lured to Russia by false job opportunities, only to find themselves drawn into the war in Ukraine. Early in the song, the narrator describes having his passport taken away, symbolizing the removal of both freedom and identity. Musically, the song features good dynamics.
